This dress is just jaw-droppingly fabulous--if you want all eyes on you when you enter the room, this gorgeous silent-film-star style beauty is your gown! Fantastic and very 1920s style vintage 1990s April Cornell (This dress is a real gothic departure from her usual designs and it's awesome) size S/M, long black velvet dress that is extensively beaded front and back with gorgeous crystal glass beads! This dress looks sooo 1920's flapper era and would be totally at home in one of Gloria Swanson's silent films....it's as gorgeous from the back as it is from the front--it's also about as vintage-goth-glam as one can get! Beautifully made of substantial, heavy black cotton velvet; such an exquisite, very detailed dress and also very comfortable to wear; is in excellent vintage condition, I do not see any bead loss or other issues. VERY well made! All this needs is the type of accessories as shown (NOT included with this listing!) plus maybe a jeweled headband, feather boa & long black cigarette holder, and you're set for a fabulous Gatsby/1920s party! This would be PERFECT for the Avalon Ball held by the Art Deco Society--or any 20s themed evening event---it's absolute vintage style elegance with the comfortable design of contemporary clothing. Be the "long cool woman in a black dress!"
IMPORTANT: PLEASE, please be sure to read ALL of the description especially the measurements and condition, and examine ALL the photos, BEFORE asking questions; and do be absolutely positive this piece will fit your requirements, as there are no refunds or returns. I'm a degreed and experienced textile scientist/antique garment restorer and seamstress, and I very, very carefully note any and all condition issues or repairs to every piece of antique/vintage clothing that I'm selling, so I can't stress enough that even if they're in pristine condition, remember they are all decades old and NOT new clothing, so if you desire modern perfection please don't purchase vintage! I don't do layaways or take offers, so please don't ask, thank you. Jewelry/accessories/props in photos are not included and not for sale.
I love antique and vintage clothing and have collected it for years, as well as having a longtime design career including doing costume & restoration work for major movie studios and museums....I've translated that love to my own contemporary creations as well as now offering some choice pieces of my extremely large collection of vintage and antique beauties! I'm meticulous about clothing in general so I make quite sure that every piece of vintage clothing I sell is clean, fresh, pressed and in excellent wearable condition---I do not use any fragranced or heavily-chemical products in caring for/cleaning garments and they are carefully stored in climate-controlled closets at all times except for when I am photographing them for listings. There is NO SMOKING whatsoever in this establishment! Everything is very diligently inspected before it is shipped to you, carefully wrapped in new tissue, and I only ship in NEW USPS boxes, NOT flimsy bags or crammed into careless packaging (which seems to be widespread nowadays but I really hate to see when I'm the recipient!) I respect clothing and I ship it the way I would want it shipped to me.
Size tag is S/M but please go by the measurements below. Please read carefully:
Bust flat measures 40", hips 42"; wearer's measurements should be at least 1-2" smaller than these. I would say it would fit a medium, size 10 perfectly.
Length is 52" from shoulder to hem while on the hanger; it is a LONG floor length dress so if you are shorter than 5' 6" you would definitely have to wear high heels with it. Mannequin is a modern size 6/8 (36-26-36); it fits the mannequin as shown with lots of room to spare under the arms, in fact I would say the mannequin is too thin for the dress (however you or your seamstress could definitely take it in at the sides, if it seems too large). I think best for an 8/10 maybe a 12 if measurements fall within the range suggested above. Closes on one side seam with snaps and hook/eye just like the antique ones were, so that the beading front and back is shown to full glory!
Condition: I can find no flaws on this dress, it is in excellent condition, no spots, stains, rips, holes or damages, no missing or loose beads. Just gorgeous! Designer's own April Cornell for Cornell Trading tag, marked "handmade" and a S/M.
Please make sure this will suit you as to measurements and style before you purchase; I don't do alterations or accept returns.....Also, please be sure to read my shop policies/shipping info in full before you purchase (click on "policies" on my main shop page).
