Antique Style Downton Abbey 1920s Vintage Lace Dress - Ivory and Peach Antique Lace - Romantic Wedding - Downton Style Fashion

Sorry, this item has sold.

Absolutely gorgeous, one of a kind, and decadently fabulous 1920's Downton Abbey vintage lace handsewn lavish DRESS...made to coordinate with my matching ivory silk antique lace 20's cloche hat (shown in the pics, NOT included in this listing)....it simply takes one's breath away! So perfect for a garden party or incredible vintage wedding....or a stunning gift for someone special....and SO very "Downton Abbey"! For many years I've looked at many of the "shabby chic" type garments made from vintage lace, but never cared for the "shabby" part; am just not into the frayed and tattered look, I prefer something more elegant....! So I decided to design my own very antique-inspired pieces that incorporate some of the exquisite laces & materials in my neverending stash, with more elegant & clean details....you won't find any raw edges or haphazardly tacked-on doilies here, only the fabulous vintage elements and fine-couture quality finishing that is the standard for all my creations ;-)

PLEASE, PLEASE BE SURE to read ALL of the description especially the measurements, and do be absolutely positive this piece will fit your requirements, as there are no refunds or returns. Also do take a moment to view all the numerous photos of this dress I have posted on my Facebook page..lots of closeups and different detail views. I love antique and vintage clothing and have collected it for years, as well as having a longtime design career including doing costume & restoration work for major movie studios and museums....Am now translating that love to my own contemporary creations and using all the fine extraordinary antique and vintage materials, laces, trims, beads etc that I've collected for more than 30 years in these wonderful wearable pieces....along with the finest of hand sewing and one of a kind details. Everything I create is individually hand made solely by me and has the very best of my carefully hoarded private stash of superb old accents (I use ONLY vintage materials that are in pristine, freshly-cleaned condition---no deteriorating, too-aged or rotting pieces EVER) plus the finest of modern silks, cottons and wools that I can find.....resulting in a fabulous truly authentic vintage look piece. Impeccable professional workmanship and design are the hallmarks here!

This incredible piece was inspired by my love of antique Victorian, Edwardian and 1920's fashions and the flowing gorgeous lacy clothing that's SO in style right now...This absolutely breathtaking gown would be stunning for a vintage-themed wedding (would make a truly awe-inspiring piece for bridal wear!), a vintage tea or 1920's Gatsby/Downton Abbey event.....perfect tones for all-seasons, too. It has so many possibilities, and ever better, is a good size range---anyone from a x-small (the mannequin is a 6-8) up to about a 14 could wear this as it's fairly loose and free-flowing. VERY easy to put on--just slips over the head and does not have any fastenings. It's a classic drop-waist 1920's style; after purchase I will add elastic at the hipline to the buyer's specifications/measurement to be sure of the best fit. It's made of a melange of exquisite vintage/antique and contemporary fine laces: venise, antique hand knotted lace, hand crochet, etc starting with a gorgeous intricate ivory soft lace top, upon which I've lavished palest pink-peach antique lace handsewn insertion at front, back and sides; and the loveliest cascading lacy ruffled butterfly-style cape sleeves which drape down on both sides, giving it such a romantic, ethereal look... like angel wings; both sleeves are trimmed with handsewn antique ivory laces and hand appliqued pale peach lace medallions....The focal point of the bodice is a soft romantic multilayered front drape neckline of various antique and contemporary ivory laces, trimmed with more antique lace ruffles and appliqued with more of the hand appliqued peach and crochet medallions---all of this is entirely hand sewn! Antique hand crocheted ivory lace edges the neckline. The skirt part of the dress, which flares out from the dropped blouson waistline to a complete circle at the hem, is all vintage very fine handmade, hand knotted intricate lace accented by more of the pale peach medallions appliqued at intervals all around the skirt...All of the lace is very soft and very comfortable-feeling next to the skin....again, so perfect for wearing to an event where you want a true vintage/antique look as well as modern comfort. This fabulous dress, with the single exception of the dropped waistline seam, is entirely sewn BY HAND as well as all of the exterior ornamentation....there are hours and hours of hand sewing in this creation plus yards and yards of fine lace. A soft pale peach net lace sash embroidered in ivories and pinks is the finishing touch to this exquisite gown....

Measurements of this beauty are as follows:

Approx 46" max measurement around the hipline of the dropped-waist--this is the maximum circumference area of the bodice part of the dress. Please keep in mind that it is shown here on sizes 6-8 dressform and mannequin that have virtually no hips or derriere and because of that it was very difficult to get the dress to fall right on the hips; it will look and fit differently on other sizes and much better on a real human body! ..... Though the actual pit-to-pit bust measurement is 44" as the armholes are more or less open, I would say this would be best on not larger than a 38-40" bust measurement as it's not meant to fit tightly, but loose and flowing....Sizes 6-12 would fit best in my opinion. I feel it might be too loose at the neckline on a smaller than a 6, and too tight across the bust on larger than a 12; the ideal is about an 8-10. In addition, it's best suited for 5' 5" and taller, but if you are shorter than that, you could have the skirt detached and made separate with an elastic waist, and wear the upper part as an overblouse over that (you'd however not have the blouson look nor be able to wear the sash in the way shown in the photos) It's very important to be aware all of these details to determine your best fit, so if you have any questions at all about the dimensions, etc please do ask before purchase. I do not accept returns and cannot do alterations after you have received the dress, so please keep that in mind as well.

Length is 53" from shoulder to hem with the blouson top resting at the top of the hips; this is not meant to be worn stretched out instead of bloused and therefore it was hard to photograph....The hemline is a super-wide full circle and the skirt drapes beautifully down the body as you can see!

Since the major portion of this is made from vintage laces, there may be some very slight variations in shading, etc. which is to be expected from vintage materials.....however as I mentioned before, I don't like shabby, off-color, mismatched or raggedy anything, so you can be sure this is as impeccably matched, sewn and crafted as possible! As far as cleaning, I would strongly recommend dry-cleaning this dress; it could certainly be hand washed but one would have to be prepared for ironing of lace, etc (caution: do NOT use too hot an iron if you must iron it!!)-- so it's best trusted to professional cleaners....and care should definitely be taken when wearing this beautiful garment. Also, the patterning of the delicate lace makes it "see through" so a slip should be worn underneath; an ivory or peach one worn under would enhance the design elements even further! Be sure to check out the exquisite matching ivory silk & antique lace 1920s cloche hat that matches this dress, in my other listings....the hat is NOT included in this listing.

Please make sure this will suit you as to measurements and style before you purchase.....Also, please be sure to read my shop policies/shipping info in full BEFORE you purchase (click on "policies" on my main shop page). There are MANY more pics of this piece on my Facebook page so please do go there and check it out, if you would like to see closeup details, etc.

Please check my other listings for more clothing coming up very soon, as well as my very popular antique-stye hats, accessories & fabulous jewelry,.....I try to list new items at least weekly....always a great selection of handmade vintage and antique inspired beauties including the gorgeous coordinating jewelry for the total vintage look.
