My personal favorite April Cornell dress! A truly fabulous, rare vintage 1990s April Cornell maxi dress with a gorgeous overprint of deep magenta pink flowers on shimmery, very silklike pale jade green rayon that is in turn woven with glimmering Asian-inspired/Deco floral and moon designs---out of all of the many many April Cornell fabrics that I've seen and handled over the years, this one is still my favorite and it's VERY rare and hard to find, have only seen one other example of it throughout my years of collecting. It has the most gorgeous, shimmering texture and hand, that one would swear it was silk even though it's rayon; and it also has the most gorgeous subtle woven design of Asian motifs plus an overprint in delicate vivid magenta florals. This is the high quality, beautiful rayon that April originally used in the majority of her clothing way back in the day and which you don't find in her current collections anymore, and it is extra special and unusual in that it is a silky jacquard-weave overprinted fabric. Beautifully made and super flattering with lovely details such as pleating on the mandarin-collar bodice, braided buttons, a high waist fit-and-flare style and delicate, inset back ties. Such a timeless, beautiful and wearable vintage style, with a soft line that clings to the body-very vintage 30's. The rayon fabric is so unusual and beautiful with its silklike sheen, and the colors are just scrumptious. This would be perfect for a vintage event like the Gatsby Summer Afternoon (just add a straw hat and some bakelite bangles!), an Art Deco garden party or, particularly suitable to wear to a summer wedding--it's very elegant yet understated.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE, please be sure to read ALL of the description especially the measurements and condition, and examine ALL the photos, BEFORE asking questions; and do be absolutely positive this piece will fit your requirements, as there are no refunds or returns. I'm a degreed and experienced textile scientist/antique garment restorer and seamstress, and I very, very carefully note any and all condition issues or repairs to every piece of antique/vintage clothing that I'm selling, so I can't stress enough that even if they're in pristine condition, remember they are all decades old and NOT newly-made clothing, so if you desire modern perfection please don't purchase vintage! I don't do layaways or take offers, so please don't ask, thank you. Jewelry/accessories/props in photos are not included and not for sale.
I love antique and vintage clothing and have collected it for years, as well as having a longtime design career including doing costume & restoration work for major movie studios and museums....I've translated that love to my own contemporary creations as well as now offering some choice pieces of my extremely large collection of vintage and antique beauties! I'm meticulous about clothing in general so I make quite sure that every piece of vintage clothing I sell is clean, fresh, pressed and in excellent wearable condition---I do not use any fragranced or heavily-chemical products in caring for/cleaning garments and they are carefully stored in climate-controlled closets at all times except for when I am photographing them for listings. There is NO SMOKING whatsoever in this establishment and never has been. Everything is very diligently inspected before it is shipped to you, carefully wrapped in new tissue, and I only ship in NEW USPS boxes, NOT flimsy bags or crammed into careless packaging (which seems to be widespread nowadays but I really hate to see when I'm the recipient!) I respect clothing and I ship it the way I would want it shipped to me.
Though I can't find a size tag anywhere on this, it measures out to be an M, but please go by the measurements below as this may fit a smaller L as well. Vintage April Cornell pieces are often generously sized.
Bust: top measures 42" pit to pit, fits up to about 38" or so, no larger than that. This slips over the head and is closed with loops and braided buttons on the upper bodice.
Just below the bustline, high waist/underbust measures 38".
Length is approx 51" from shoulder to hem while on the hanger. Mannequin is a modern size 6/8 (36-26-36) and the dress fits well with room to spare; like many April Cornell vintage pieces, the fit can be adjusted with the back ties. I'd say best for up to a 10, but double check measurements to be sure!
Condition: New old stock--I can find no flaws on this dress whatsoever; it has been freshly cleaned and very much looks to have never been worn, there are no spots, stains, rips, holes or damages, just gorgeous! Labels are intact, with the designer's own April Cornell tag.
Please make sure this will suit you as to measurements and style before you purchase; I don't do alterations or accept returns.....Also, please be sure to read my shop policies/shipping info in full before you purchase (click on "policies" on my main shop page).
